Biography

Mr. Mike Alvarez grew up in Santa Fe Springs attending St. Pius X School and then entering St. Francis High School Salesian Seminary in Watsonville California. He then went to Don Bosco College in Newton, New Jersey, where in majored in Philosophy and minored in English. After teaching high school English and Religion for 3 years, he studied Theology at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California. He also got his Masters degree in Education at UCLA and completed the coursework for his PhD there.
For many years, Mr. Alvarez has been a classroom teacher, school administrator, counselor, campus minister, and coach. He has been teaching at St. Paul High School since 2013.
Mr. Alvarez is married with two children.

On Zoom, students will discuss their understanding of John 11: 1-45. The film The
Gospel of John will be assigned (found on Netflix), due Friday.
 
Tuesday
On Google classroom, students will read John 8: 1-30 and complete the study guide
questions, due Wednesday.
 
Wednesday
On Zoom, students will discuss their answers to worksheet on John 8.
 
Thursday
On Google classroom, students will read John 8: 31-60 and complete the study guide
questions, due Friday’

On Zoom, students will discuss their answers to the discussion questions for the film

VOCATIONS (Religion 4)
Objectives and Outcomes for the week:
(Articles 11-13 in Vocations: Answering God’s Call)
Students will understand that Marriage is a sacramental covenant that joins a man and a woman in an indissoluble union.
Students will learn that in Sacred Scripture, Marriage is created and blessed by God and given the dignity of being numbered among the Seven Sacraments, Students will learn that, as a Sacrament at the Service of Communion, Marriage promotes the salvation of others and serves to build up the Kingdom of God.

Tuesday
Students will view the video “Sacraments 101: Matrimony (why make it Catholic)” and complete the Bible assignment “Marriage in the Old Testament”.
 
Wednesday
On Zoom, Students will view the video “Bishop Barron on the Sacrament of Marriage” and complete the Bible assignment “Marriage in the New Testament.”
 
Thursday
Students will view the video “Finding the Love of Your Life” and answer the discussion questions for homework.
 
Friday
On Zoom, Students will do the Lectio Divina on the Gospel for Palm Sunday

Objectives and Outcomes for the week:

Students will understand the first great struggles of the infant Church:
o The Council of Jerusalem
o The Baptism of Cornelius
o Peter and Paul in Antioch

Students will locate and explain the events of Paul’s 2nd Missionary Journey
Students will relate the development of the Apostolic Tradition to the composition of the New Testament
