Santa Fe Springs, CA.- St. Paul High School is proud to have Bishop Sylvester Ryan back on campus to lead a morning mass for Holy Week. Bishop Ryan was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1957 and he also served as Principal of St. Paul High School from 1972-1977.

Bishop Ryan was Principal of St. Paul in a time in which the school was nationally known and enrollment was at an all-time high. Following his time at St. Paul, he was a named President-rector of the Archdiocesan St. John’s College Seminary in 1986, and was consecrated a Bishop by Cardinal Roger Mahony in 1990. Bishop Ryan was appointed the third Bishop of Monterey in California by Pope John Paul II in 1992 and served as the President of the California Catholic Conference from 1997-2004.
Currently, Bishop Ryan lives in Avalon on Catalina Island.
