Academics & Grading
The academic year is based on two semesters and a traditional A – F grading system is used (A=90%, B=80%, c=70%, D=60%, F=59% or lower). Students are ranked by total G.P.A. Our current student body is 570 in grades 9-12. Tuition for the 2010-2011 school year is $6585.00.
School Demographics
St. Paul High School opened its doors in September of 1956. We primarily serve students who come from Catholic, blue-collar, lower to middle class homes in the Whittier, Pico Rivera and Norwalk areas. The economic profile of those served by St. Paul High School is diverse. Occupations of parents range from managerial/professional to manual/domestic. Household income levels range from $15,000 to $90,000. About sixty-five percent (65%) of students come from dual income households with both parents employed outside of the home. Our student body is ninety-one (91%) Catholic and our parents are committed to providing their children with the skills to succeed. Our student body of 570 students continues to be primarily Hispanic (76%). Other ethnic origins are: White/other (13%), Multi-racial (4%), Filipino (3%), Asian (2%) and African-American (2%).
Athletic Program
Teams are selected by the coaching staff. Participation in school athletics is a privilege, not a right. In accordance with our philosophy of education, we encourage all students to participate in some form of athletics. St. Paul High School is a member of the
Camino Del Rey and Mission Leagues and is subject to their constitutions and bylaws. The school fields eight sports for boys (football, volleyball, cross-country, basketball, soccer, baseball, golf and track and field) and seven sports for girls (volleyball, cross-country, basketball, soccer, softball, golf and track and field).
Activities
Students are required to participate in our Christian Service Program and they attend class retreats (Kairos for seniors). Students can participate in ASB, Band, Drill Team, Pep Squad, Chorus, Drama, Yearbook, School newspaper and Homecoming. School honor societies are National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation and Spanish Honor Society. Traditional clubs include Recycling Club, Intra-mural Club and Rotary Interact Club. Each year new clubs are formed, driven by student interest.
