Band
Saint Paul High School is proud to offer several instrumental music
opportunities. We pride ourselves on providing only the best in music education
covering all aspects of performance as well as music theory, rehearsal
technique, and individual responsibility and accountability. We all know the
importance of having a balanced education. Having the cultural and
extracurricular experience of music is not only beneficial to your student’s
high school career, but it also instills in them an awareness of music’s
important role in the enrichment of the human spirit.
Our award winning Marching Swordsmen Band and Color Guard is a dynamic ensemble
consisting of the Band, Drumline, and Color Guard. Performing at all football
games, pep rallies, and school functions, the Marching Swordsmen have
established themselves as a staple element to the Saint Paul family. Having
grown over One Hundred percent over the last year, the Marching Swordsmen are
the fastest growing group on campus. There is nothing like feeling the
excitement of putting on the uniform knowing that you will be performing for
hundreds of people. The camaraderie and lifelong friendships that are made in
this ensemble are priceless.
Our Beginning Band class is a great place to learn what it means to be a
musician. The class covers college preparatory levels of music theory as well as
beginning instrumental techniques. The Beginning Band performs at both the
Winter Concert as well as the Spring Concert. If you are looking to learn how to
play an instrument, regardless of what level you are at, this is the class for
you.
The award winning Wind Ensemble of Saint Paul is our premier concert ensemble.
The Wind Ensemble has performed in many festivals including the Heritage
Festivals in both San Diego and Anaheim. They prepare music in a classical
setting, performing contemporary works as well as standards of the wind band
repertoire. The Wind Ensemble also performs at both the Winter Concert as well
as the Spring Concert.
We are proud to also offer a
Praise Band and Choir here at Saint Paul. This
group prepares all the music for our masses here. We provide an outstanding
musical environment to help bring our spirits closer together during that most
reverent time during our Catholic High School experience.
For the drummer in all of us, we have the
Saint Paul Percussion Ensemble. This
group functions as both the Drumline during the fall semester and the Concert
Percussion Ensemble during the spring semester. Percussion Ensemble concentrates
on teaching proper percussion technique as well as exposure to all the different
percussion instruments. This ensemble performs throughout the year and is seeing
tremendous growth as well.
The newest addition to the
Saint Paul Family is our Color Guard. Color Guard is
a performance ensemble which develops aspects of dance as well as performing
with various equipment including flags, rifles, and sabers. It is open to both
men and women and meets regularly throughout the school year. The Color Guard
performs during the fall in conjunction with the marching band to make the field
show a truly vibrant and visually appealing extravaganza. During the spring, the
Color Guard develops and performs a show for competitions as well as the Spring
Concert.
